Friday...again.

Last weekend was the Queen Bee Market. Thanks for saying hi if you dropped by – so fun to meet a few of you and see familiar faces! It's was so good to get out of my box (as always!) but also a reminder (as always!) that my business is 99.9% online.

(As always!) It was totally fun to play with my booth styling and try out some new products. I am hoping to get those cards into my online shop SOON. But first I need to figure out how I am going to have a normal shop + a make29 shop… we'll see…

In other news, I wrapped up a BIG project which always makes me feel like I lost 5 pounds and got a new haircut (THE JOY! THE RELIEF! THE DISBELIEF!). And then I had a BIG opportunity cross my inbox and I am the perfect amount of nervous and excited about it (it is NOT a product line or a book deal). I'm looking forward to sharing more on that soon.

I hope you have a great weekend. Sunday is Mother's Day! My first one! I'm hugging my little bug tightly, thanking my own mom profusely and getting a massage to celebrate.

Cheers.

you can’t talk about your haircut without posting a picture of it! What a tease! 🙂 Although the cute baby picture will make up for it I suppose. Happy 1st Mother’s Day.

Listening to my first of your podcast episodes (I’m late! I know! But still!) and pausing to read this. Two Elise voices at once get me confused, so I had to pick. These photo collections get me every time – loving them more and more, the colors, the activities, the mix, the people. Interesting enough, I stopped at the second to last pic and thought – wait a minute, that side of the tape roll looks familiar! Only then I realized it’s the tape you stuck to your table and this in turn is the same tape I picked up at Office Max in LA as part of my crazy office supply souvenirs collection (that I had to end just as quick as it started, or else my suitcase would have been SO over weight).
In short – made me smile. Thanks!

Happy early Mother’s Day! I always wonder if I should branch out to do markets or if I should keep my business online. I think I will branch out just to try it.

I love your Queen Bee Market setup! I so wish I could’ve gone, but I live on the other side of America. Happy Mother’s Day! Loads of respect to you and all the other mothers for all you do (: Can’t wait for details about your exciting new venture.

Elise, I have a question for you and it’s one that I think would spark a good discussion. My intent is for it to spark discussion, not to be mean or snarky or anything like that.
How do you feel about people copying your ideas and designs? Now, I know there are many levels to that. I assume you share DIY projects on your blog so that those of us who love your style and ideas can copy them for ourselves. But what about when you are sharing things that you make to sell (like the new cards you just started selling)? I look at those and think, “I could make those!” I do not want to take money away from your business by not buying them from you, but they’re cute and I want to save myself money, and I can’t attend the Queen Bee Market, so I’d print them out on my home computer.
I’m not thinking that’s bad or wrong, but I want your opinion. And then, what if I want to make sets to give to friends? What do you think about that? My line has always been selling. I would not sell something that I copied from someone else without getting permission. I don’t think I should benefit financially off of someone else’s idea. But then, aren’t I saving money even by giving them as gifts, so maybe my other beliefs are flawed?
Hope this makes sense, and I would love your thoughts!
    Thanks!
    Amy

Ok HOW did you get the pic of BOTH your hands on the computer?!?! Come ON. LOL
PS. Amy has a great question – those cards are so clever… but also, relatively easy for anyone who is at all crafty to make themselves. I’m not planning on it, but I’d be interested in a blog post on that.
I had a similar issue when Stacy Julian released her book on Library of Memories. I had heard SO much about LOM online but no one explained what it was or how it worked. The only way to know was to take a +$100 online class that lasted for like 6 weeks. Then the book came out and suddenly I could buy that and apply it and I wanted to explain it.
But these were Stacy’s ideas and I worried that writing a really detailed blog post breaking it down would violate her copyright and take money out of her pocket.
IN the end I wrote the post bc I would be chatting about it on 2peas and people were always asking “but what is it?!?!” and I didn’t want to answer that over and over. I asked Stacy about that and not only was she happy I did it, she featured a link in her blog and drove a lot of traffic over to me.
The post is old but still up
