Podcast

A long time ago (like YEARS) I blogged about how in the future I was going to have my own TV show called, "Let's Get Crafty!" The studio audience would shout, "LETS!" "GET!" "CRAFTY!" and I would run out on stage brandishing glue sticks with ribbon stuck to the bottom of my shoes.

Let's just say, I am glad that idea didn't pan out. I do not have the hair for television.

But today I am excited to introduce "ELISE GETS CRAFTY" the podcast! It is slightly less awkward than a TV show but still discusses some of my very favorite topics. What I know to be true is that it's easier to have a conversation than write a blog post. You get to do cool things, like use inflection to denote sarcasm. You get to talk through thoughts as you're having them. You don't have to worry (as much) that someone is going to take a sentence out of context. It's faster. It's easier. It's less-edited. It's really just a fun additional way to connect and share ideas.

I have a few goals for this new venture.

First : I'd like to share some of the things that I have learned over the years about blogging, business, creativity, inspiration and motivation.

Second : I'd like to speak with some fun guests and learn from their experience. I am thrilled to be bringing some people on to talk about things that I don't already know about (like how to run an affiliate program for your own business or what it's like behind the scenes at the National Stationery Show).

Third : I'd like a different channel to connect with readers and grow my business and brand in a way that feels authentic, is interesting to me and isn't too time consuming.

The first THREE episodes are now live and you can listen here or download through iTunes (search "elise gets crafty"). I am working on getting the episodes listed on other podcast channels. The first episode I recorded before I knew what I was doing to talk through my plan and then figure out how to actually set up a podcast. The second is just an old video post (elise talks college) that I turned into an episode. The third is about developing an editorial calendar for your blog and features my first guest, Sarah Von Bargen from Yes and Yes.

New episodes will go live on Wednesdays (probably not every single Wednesday, but often enough). I'd love to hear episode suggestions or guest host ideas if you have them and I hope you enjoy. And FYI, the blog is not going anywhere! I'm just experimenting with a lot of different things this year. Thanks for helping me stretch and grow.

LOVE LOVE your podcast! Texting nephews and nieces with your college segment. Thinking about starting a “Coffee with Elise” group. I have some friends that are doers and want to make a difference. We’ll have great coffee, listen to your podcast…then share our thoughts on how and when we are going to incorporate your great flame into our actions. Thanks again.

You have such grace, Elise. I know you’re smart enough to realize the above comment(breadwinner?? seriously??) was more about the person commenting than about you, but again, it’s so lame to have to field comments like that in your own “space”.
Anyway, I am ecstatic to get to hear your inspiration in addition to reading it. Your work ethic is astounding. Thank you for sharing your passions with us!

The podcasts were awesome! I’m so inspired by how you’re such a “do-er”! I’d love to hear an episode about your early days and how you stayed motivated to continually produce new content and keep moving forward with your blog and shop before you got a ton of interaction from readers. Another thing I’d be interested to hear you talk about is how you came up with the navigation system on your site. (Basically, how did you come up with a way to organize it and make it user friendly to where people can find old posts and content easily).
Looking forward to future podcasts and as always, your super inspiring posts!

Love this, Elise! I don’t really listen to podcasts, so I’m definitely going to have to start. I can’t wait to listen!
I also wanted to thank you for your inspiration. The way you dream and plan and then just go after your goals is really awesome to watch. Or, rather, read. Ha! I’ve been wanting to start my own Etsy shop for a few years but have been too nervous and intimidated. Watching you constantly going after your dreams has been an inspiration. And today I bought my first materials for my Etsy shop. 🙂 So thank you for being you and making an impact!

So exciting! I can’t wait to listen in. Creative women sharing thoughts with other creative women = the ultimate inspiration. 🙂
On that topic, have you ever checked out the interviews Monica does at http://www.smartcreativewomen.com? You might enjoy them… she has had lots of great inspiring guests on lately.
I’m happy yours are on Itunes because that way I can listen in the car etc…
    Congrats on this!

Yayyyy! So excited for you!! And for me because now I have a new podcast to listen to. 🙂 I like Kelsey’s idea for doing a podcast on digital photo storage and organization. My system is such a mess. Especially since I have to upload to a clunky external hard drive then edit and size each photo in photoshop and put them onto a 4×6 collage for printing (most of my photos are vertical iPhone shots that I cut down to 3x4s for project life). I know you print at home, but I’d be interested to hear more about your system if you have anything else to share!
I also think it would be cool to occasionally feature a non-“celeb” blogger/scrapper. Like just one of your regular readers or followers.
And I’d love to hear more about other parts of your life too – like health, fitness, and nutrition and any routines that help you with those parts of your life!

Wow! This is so cool. I love podcasts – if never be able to clean anything without them to listen to!
I would love to hear an interview with you and Rachel denbow from smile and wave! That would be so inspiring. Perhaps quilting themed! Or just general life and blogging 🙂
One thing I’m really intrigued to hear about is your approach to your blog and career. For example, you don’t do sponsored posts or much advertising and you are very strategic with that – I’d love to hear more of your personal ideals and values around what you do and why, as I love this space and how I know there will always be amazing content here.

I’m so excited about this announcement!
I’m on vacation from work this week, and I’ve spent a couple of days cleaning and trying out new podcasts at the same time. I’ve come across some good ones, and also some where the idea might be great, but the interview skills/speaking manner were a bit off.
I’ve listened to the first two episodes and am partway through the third – I have to say, you’re very easy to listen to. I knew I would love the content, but just wanted to let you know that you sound great – passionate and well-spoken. I’m looking forward to hearing more!

I was able to listen to the first podcast last night and I’m so excited! Yay for you! I just started an Etsy shop and blog late last year and love learning about these sorts of things. I’d really appreciate organization advice for business expenses. Reviews of various storefronts: Etsy, Square Market, Scoutmob, etc. Tech advice. Photo and file organization. [I loooove organizing!] Tips for doing craft shows. How to navigate the world of blogging partnerships. Managing social media. Etc etc.

Congratulations on your new podcast, Elise! I’ve been waiting ever since you mentioned it before – yay! Thank you for having Sarah on. I just discovered her blog (probably through you) and can’t wait to listen. You’re so inspiring as a ‘solopreneur’, a mommy getting it done. I’ve started a virtual assistant biz for creative types, and have plans for bringing my longtime scrapbooking blog to the next level in 2014 as well – so the work you do and the way you share that process is extremely helpful.

So excited for you! I listened to all three and enjoyed them. Would love to hear about how you source your vendors. For example, how did you find a letterpress printer for last month’s make29 print? Also, pricing. Guests I’d love to hear would be Kelly Purkey and Ann-Marie Morris. Thanks for sharing so much with us!

Would it be possible to record the poscasts louder? I had to turn the volume almost all the way up in my car to hear it. This would make the music I play cause damage at that volume.

    Hi Elise,
Have been reading your blog for a couple of years now and love it, really enjoying this new venture of yours and can’t wait to hear the next podcast. I was just wondering, as podcasts are quite new to me but great for listening to whilst doing the housework/driving to work, do you have any recommendations for other podcasts I might enjoy listening to? Ones you listen to and enjoy perhaps? I’d definitely like to find some more to enjoy whilst I wait for your next!

Hi Elise, I really loved listening to your podcast, even though I’m not a creative, I just love to read blogs. I know you are focusing mostly on business things there but one thing I really love from other podcasts is a bit of “what’s going on here and now” weather that’s endorsements/things you’re loving/what’s making you happy or a bit more about something you’ve already shared on insta or the blog. hearing your voice gush about the, let’s say, pizza and boozy drink you had the night before can really add a spark and bit of that personality (sarcasm! goofy!) you were talking about in the post after the your story retreat. Keep to it lady!

Elise, good day. I have recently posted about the resources about blogging and online business and mentioned your podcast there. Though it is in Russian, I still believe it worth to be shared with you. Moreover, there are other resources which I knew from your podcast. So, thank you, thank you for the inspiration.
