Podcast

A long time ago (like YEARS) I blogged about how in the future I was going to have my own TV show called, "Let's Get Crafty!" The studio audience would shout, "LETS!" "GET!" "CRAFTY!" and I would run out on stage brandishing glue sticks with ribbon stuck to the bottom of my shoes.

Let's just say, I am glad that idea didn't pan out. I do not have the hair for television.

But today I am excited to introduce "ELISE GETS CRAFTY" the podcast! It is slightly less awkward than a TV show but still discusses some of my very favorite topics. What I know to be true is that it's easier to have a conversation than write a blog post. You get to do cool things, like use inflection to denote sarcasm. You get to talk through thoughts as you're having them. You don't have to worry (as much) that someone is going to take a sentence out of context. It's faster. It's easier. It's less-edited. It's really just a fun additional way to connect and share ideas.

I have a few goals for this new venture.

First : I'd like to share some of the things that I have learned over the years about blogging, business, creativity, inspiration and motivation.

Second : I'd like to speak with some fun guests and learn from their experience. I am thrilled to be bringing some people on to talk about things that I don't already know about (like how to run an affiliate program for your own business or what it's like behind the scenes at the National Stationery Show).

Third : I'd like a different channel to connect with readers and grow my business and brand in a way that feels authentic, is interesting to me and isn't too time consuming.

The first THREE episodes are now live and you can listen here or download through iTunes (search "elise gets crafty"). I am working on getting the episodes listed on other podcast channels. The first episode I recorded before I knew what I was doing to talk through my plan and then figure out how to actually set up a podcast. The second is just an old video post (elise talks college) that I turned into an episode. The third is about developing an editorial calendar for your blog and features my first guest, Sarah Von Bargen from Yes and Yes.

New episodes will go live on Wednesdays (probably not every single Wednesday, but often enough). I'd love to hear episode suggestions or guest host ideas if you have them and I hope you enjoy. And FYI, the blog is not going anywhere! I'm just experimenting with a lot of different things this year. Thanks for helping me stretch and grow.

I would love to hear about you fitness goals/thoughts… Maybe some stuff on the food you cook.. Or eat. Maybe an episode with Paul, I think that would be fun and interesting to hear his perspective on the blog and having his house ever changing with crafts! : ) I’m sure he is so proud!

I do indeed!!! And I am grateful everyday that I got to experiment with my business in the early years. And guess what? The experiments and working hard have paid off. I could support myself on my dream these days and Paul and I both “win the bread”. 🙂

I’m so excited for this! I know that I am going to learn so much. Organization (especially photos), Inspiration, and execution are top on my list. Probably because they are what I struggle with. I have so many ideas, and I’ve started to write them down but execution is the hard part. Also delegation? What do you delegate to keep your blog running (or you might do it all!) I know you have outsourced help with Ellerie but I’m also wondering about specifically with your blog and design and such. Now I”m just being needy. Thanks!

What a fabulous idea, I am stoked to be able to listen to your guidance and crafty adventures while I create for my own blog and just know I am going to learn so so much from these. As I have mentioned before I started my blog in January and have reached over 50 posts now which is super exciting but super scary so any help from my fave blogger is fabulous! I cant wait to get listening 🙂 Thank you!

    YAY! So exciting!
    Some possible guests:
Abby Glassenberg: Softie maker and author. (She just did a post about her quarterly earnings – and has lots to say about how important it is for us to talk about money in this crafty, working-for-yourself world + the reality vs the assumptions– which an earlier commenter really drove home)
Diane Gilleland: Crafty book author who has made a lot of interesting crafty-biz career shifts.
Gabrielle Krake of Bee Wise Goods: She owns THREE B+M shops filled with handmade stuff.
Oh my goodness, I could keep going – our world is full of fascinating people! I can’t wait to listen in on my run today!

I just finished listening to all 3. Loved them. Really helpful. I love hearing about others’ process and it will be great to have a community of makers. I’ve been blogging for over a year and want to grow the blog and start selling photo cards, prints, photo travel journal books. So all this info is great. PS – I’ve been reading your blog for over a year. Funny factoid – I keep going back to your post about organizing your parents’ photos in a weekend. How did you do that??? Your energy definitely comes through the screen.

Hooray! I’m obsessed with podcasts lately. I love that it does feel more personal because you get to hear people casually talking and hear off the cuff thoughts. And I love that I can listen on my commute or around the house.
I’d love to hear about digital photo organization. From the perspective of: so you take a photo with your DSLR….and then what? I haven’t found the right digital photo storage situation and I’d love to hear your processes since you take so many photos.
I might also like to hear ideas for being crafty or getting into a crafty mindset for people who don’t consider themselves crafty (which was me for a long time!). I find that when I take the time to make something I love it and I’m discovering that I actually am a very creative person but I have often felt intimidated by craft stores or different mediums because I don’t really know what I’m doing. I love that you are brave enough to just go head first into something and I’d love to hear you talk more about that.
I’m excited to hear more episodes and to get to know the guests you interview. Way to go, you’re a podcaster!

Apart from that- I looove hearing Ellerie in the first one, and realizing that this is you, just real-lifing this (lol, not a word) and
and b) really enjoyed the last talk with Sarah… if you listen to the Joy the Baker + Shutterbean podcast, I’d really enjoy hearing a collab between you guys ( I feel like you all would be the best of friends!)
