This past week I discovered the waterlogue app (so far just available on Apple products) and I'm having way too much fun with it. It takes your phone photos and turns them into pretty sweet watercolor "paintings." In Paul's words, the human faces look "creepy" – I think it's the eyes – but the results are pretty amazing regardless.

You can play with all sorts of different watercolor "techniques" (just like you'd play with filters) and the images are saved as high resolution so I imagine they would print pretty well. I have a few different projects in mind for how I want to get images like this off my phone and into my house.

tons more info here. I am in no way affiliated with this app, just wanted to share.

When you posted that plant image in instagram, I wondered how this would work with faces … and I must say, I am pretty surprised they look so good! The one with Ellerie sitting in her room looks too cute. Thanks for sharing more peeks!

Have fun Elise, but I agree with Paul! :). Your lovely photo style without this app, is awesome. The plants watercolored …cute…maybe a bit”Monet” 🙂

After you posted the pic on Instagram with it, I got it and tried it out. I find its fun to watch it rendering the photo into watercolour, it’s like watching an artist as they’re painting.

I love this app-I used Picollage app of all Waterlogue pics and sent to Photoshop elements and made 12×12 picture which I had printed at Persnickety Prints and it turned out very cool. I am going to frame it

When I saw your pic on Instagram a few days ago, I decided to get the App. And I just LOVE it, especially for pictures with plants and landscapes (actually, we have so much snow out here… but I guess it’ll be gorgeous when spring finally comes).
Thanks a lot for sharing it. 🙂

I have been playing with this app the last few days as well & they print beautifully. I am in the process of building a gallery wall for our living room & this app gives a regularly aesthetically pleasing photo a beautiful abstract feel. I have converted a couple of my dogs and also my boyfriend and I just for fun photos to sit around, but flowers look amazing when run through the app for bigger art.

I think I have to agree with Paul, the faces do look a tad bit creepy, but everything else looks super cool! I’ll have to play around with this app.

I LOVE this app!! Love it for nature/landscape type photos, doesn’t work as well on people or pets that I’ve found…. gotta agree with Paul on this one too 😉

I agree with both of you. Creepy people when eyes open, straight on. Cool effect on still life, objects, etc. thanks for sharing.

After reading this post, I had to get the app too. I wanted to share that I ended up printing them on cardstock and adhering them a mini canvas and I think the print quality is quite good. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I too purchased Waterlogue a week ago. I have had great success with pictures of my pets. Not so much with pictures that have limited contrast. If you’re interested in seeing what I was able to do, feel free to look me up on twitter @ec_kehoe

I am using photo effect plus for iPad and its really very nice as it allows me to add effects in my photos. I can add different shades apart from water color such as oil paint.
