Mileadaychallenge

The past two years, I have committed to running one mile everyday from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. It's been one of my favorite exercise goals. I have found that sharing my progress on Instagram (by taking a photo of my running shoes and using the hashtag #mileaday) has kept me inspired and dedicated to the venture.

I have decided to embark on #mileaday again this year. The goal is to run just one mile and I'll be starting tomorrow on Thanksgiving morning. Some days Paul will join me. Some days Ellerie (in the stroller) will. Other days it will just be me and a podcast. It usually just takes me just about ten minutes and this year, scheduling it in to my days will be much harder than the actual run itself.

It's a short holiday season this year with just 34 run days. I'm looking forward to making this work and starting 2014 on the right foot (no pun intended) with an active habit already established.

Care to join me? You can read more about my inspirations and thoughts on this challenge in 2011 here and 2012 here. Use the #mileaday hashtag if you want to share your own progress or follow along.

I started mine on 10 November and am running through 20 December. Trying to jump start getting the rest of my baby weight off. Love this challenge!

I’m IN!!! I absolutely despise running, but I’m gonna do this!!! Sure most likely all my shoe pics would be from a treadmill, as it’s a freezing 18 degrees here in Michigan this morning!!!

Sounds great! Maybe next year – like Denise, for running in the Winter to be practical I need to invest in a treadmill first. But, we will be running in a 5K Thanksgiving morning!
    Enjoy that mile each day!

I’m in! Thanks for the inspiration to getting moving. I’m thinking it will also be hard for me to schedule in runs- not because I’m busy with a little one, but because it’s cold outside and getting to the gym takes some extra effort. My family always starts Thanksgiving with a “Turkey Trot,” where friends in our neighborhood gather to run 1-3 miles and then have hot cocoa. It’s a fun tradition. Happy Thanksgiving!

I’ve been inspired by this challenge every year, Elise! I can’t run, so I’ve decided that I will ride 5 miles on the stationary bike each day instead. I won’t get to instagram cool photos of my feet in different locations, but will still get the benefit of daily exercise, which is extra difficult around the holidays and when it’s cold out!
    Now I just need a cool hashtag…#fiveaday? #fiveonthebike? 😉

I’m in. Will also use your hashtag!
I needed the inspiration to run. I’m also starting the “Sexy Burn Challenge” at the Daily Hiit. I like the Daily Hiit workouts because I can do them in my bedroom and don’t need to find someone to take care of my girl. But I like running. I will mostly be doing it on a treadmill but I’ll try to get outside more!

I’m not a runner (yet) but I will join you and walk it if that’s okay? My hubby and three teens all run, so I need to start somewhere if I plan to join them. Thanks for the encouragement! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I know I can’t run a mile! I do walk a mile a day altogether to and from the train to work — 8 blocks in the morning and 8 in the evening (a mile is 10-12 blocks)
But you have me thinking. Hmmm. Have you tried the 7 minute app? It’s only 7 minutes but it is HARD. I usually have to stop in the middle to rest, and I have to adapt the exercises (I can’t do a push up with rotation)
I wonder… if I could do that every single day for 34 days and document it. It would be SO HARD but quite an accomplishment.

I did this last year and am looking forward to doing it again this year. (Secretly, I’m kind of hoping to extend it to Valentine’s Day, but we’ll see….)

I really want to do this challenge this year. I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse 3-4 days a week which makes a daily challenge of running super difficult (and exhausting from the start) but I’m thinking of maybe starting the habit for all my days off? That’s still so many more miles than I’m currently running (which is zero). I’m still thinking about it, but I think I wanna go for it!

Two years ago I did a 2 mile/day challenge between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was in the process of moving cities, and it was very very cold. Some days I couldn’t get out to run, so I made up for it the other days.
This year I resolved to run 1000 miles. When it got to be the end of race season and I was still several hundred miles off, I amended my goal to 100 miles more than last year, or 850 miles. As of right now, I’m at 738. 112 miles to go. I can do this.

I’m in too! It will be on my treadmill because of the cold temps and snow here in the mountains of PA. I’m excited!! Happy Thanksgiving and Happy First Thanksgiving Ellerie!!

I would love to join you, but winter is arriving in Reno on Tuesday, so I think the snow will put a damper on the whole getting outside to exercise thing.

This is great! I am recovering from a stress fracture in my foot and I’m dying to lace up again. Once I’m healed, I think this might be a way for me to get back into the swing of things.
Best of running to you and happy holiday!

I was inspired by you last year and set the goal to walk two miles a day for the month of January, 2013. I made it, so decided to continue through February. Now it’s November 27, 2013 and I have walked (at least) two miles every single day in 2013! It’s been interesting to make that a “must do” every day – I’ve overcome a lot of excuses! I plan to finish the year and keep the same goal for 2014. Thanks for the inspiration!

Several years ago I started walking a mile or more each day. It is amazing what just that can do for a person. I’ve lost close to 40 pounds and feel so much better about myself. Now I am lost if I don’t get my walk in each day.

I did the mile a day last year in Canada, proving to myself that “it’s too cold” wasn’t a good enough excuse not to run but when I moved to Australia in January, “it’s too hot” became my excuse. I’ve just finished my first (painful) run but last year’s mile a day proved that if I put my mind to it, I can always manage a mile. Thanks for the motivation to break out of my comfort zone again!!

What a coincidence! I began walking a mile a day since last Wednesday…so although I’m walking, not running, count me in too! I plan to do this daily, not just for a few weeks, though. And I’d love to buy a pair of those Merrell sneakers!!

My 10yo son and I are going to do this. He’s a runner and outpaces me so we might do it separately, but we WILL do it. Great motivation to get outside and moving every day, sometimes a mental challenge here in Maine.

I know this post is over a year old, but where did you get these blue shoes?!?!?!?! I like the orange ones you have in more recent posts too. I have been searching and searching and I CANNOT seem to find a pair similar to the blue ones. This is the closest I have gotten. Any suggestions or helpful advice?

OK – i know you won’t be doing the running this year…but I think it’s my year to try it…I’m already training for a 1/2 and while I normally take rest days, I think running (at least) 1 mile a day would be awesome so even on rest days I can get out there for some exercise.
