One of my goals for this month is to get more photos printed and framed. I have had a few projects in mind for awhile and this is the first one.

Futuredining

Remember when I shared my idea for the dining area? My "sketch" showed a big fiddle leaf fig in the corner and two oversized framed photos.

Framedphotos

Well, I bought a small fiddle leaf fig (still on the hunt for a gorgeous huge one) and framed three favorites from our photoshoot with Tara Whitney.

Framedphotos2

The frames are Ribba from Ikea. I went with the 19.5×27 size and ordered 20×30 photo prints from unitprints.com. I was thrilled with the print quality and just had to trim a bit off the top and side to make the photos fit the frames (I knew this would be the case – Ribba frames are inexpensive, but annoyingly sized).

Framedphotos3

I wanted the photos to be family photos, but I didn't want them to be too posed or "looking at the camera" images. These were my favorites of the three of us that were in a vertical format. Originally, I thought black and white photos would be better here, but I am glad I kept them in color. Because there is not a lot going on in each photo, they don't seem to overwhelm.

Framedphoto6

I'm about ready to call this dining area complete. We have been eating dinner here (instead of in front of the TV) and every time we sit down I am glad I went for the big table. It's probably tied for favorite purchase along with the hanging lamp and ampersand. (The ampersand was purchased on clearance at World Market, the vase is Crate & Barrel and the candle holders were found via craigslist.)

Dottedline

Huge thanks to unitprints.com for helping me print these oversized photos. I found their site easy to use, shipping turn-around quick and photo quality fantastic. Please note that while project idea, post and opinions are all my own, I received a discount on photo printing in exchange for sharing here.

Love the photos that you chose. They’re so sweet. I’ve wanted to do something similar, but the only really high quality photos I have are my wedding photos. I’m afraid huge wedding photos might be more than a little cheesy.

Fabulous and I love that even though yes they’re family photos they also showcase you and your wonderful quilts. The middle is my favourite, the ligthing is beautiful. I love how you’ve brought your house together.

Love the photos – gorgeous! Also, love that you are eating dinner together at the table. As the mom of 4 (my oldest is 27, youngest two 16) we’ve traditionally sat down at the table for our meals every night together even if one of us were deployed or working. We’ve read books out loud, shared a bunch of laughter, never use the dinner table for discipline, but may for family discussions, and it is just a great tradition to have full of many memories.

Stunning. Just stunning. Man, I love your house.
Also, making the transition to eating at the table (versus in front of the TV the way we did when we were DINC), was hard at first, but so important. Kudos for making the change now as Ellerie will be joining you there before you know it!

Oh and I was inspired by your quilts (especially that black and white one) and decided to create one of my own.
I had a TON of denim jeans that I have been collecting over the years and I had enough for a quilt.
So I bleached the lighter ones and kept the dark ones dark.
I’m in the process of making the top with the little triangles, but I’ll share it with you once I’m done.
It’s been really satisfying getting to use torn jeans that I wouldn’t have given to charity in a project that will be in my house for a long time!
And thanks, because you helped with inspiration!

That’s awesome! I agree, I’d never even considered making a quilt until I saw Elise do it and now I can’t wait to create one of my very own. Good for you for getting it done!

love the oversized photographs, they look amazing! just an idea if you haven’t looked into it already… i special ordered a fiddle leaf fig for our living room through a local nursery. it was WAY more inexpensive than i thought it would be and only took a few days to get here. good luck with your search!

Your dining room is looking great! I adore the style of pictures you chose! So often I go straight to the super posed shots when I’m trying to decide on wall art, but I love this informal style so much more. You get more stuff done with a newborn baby in a week than I get done in a month and I don’t have any kids. Ha! You’re an inspiration!

Great tip! I am currently stocking Home Depot because they tend to get good ones for about $100…

No I didn’t want to move that &… for some reason I felt like it would be cheesy to act like we were one, two and three. but that might just be me. 😉

I love it. I also love that you eat at the table and make dinner every night. That used to be the “rule” in my family and now we’re doing well if we eat something more than a sandwich for dinner. It’s sad, really. I hope to get back to that when I move out, even if it’s just me.

I’ve seen them at home depot too! My tree is around 9′ tall and I was able to purchase it for more like $75… but I also live in the middle of Ohio where things might not be as pricey 😉

Love what you’ve done there, choice of photo’s and the entire space. Did you notice that on some photo’s there’s a reflection of script on the framed photo’s. I initially thought you wrote on the actual photo’s. Love the effect.
