Summer

Hooray, hooray! We made it. If you've read this blog for more than a year, you know summer is my season. It's my reason. It's my jam. And June always feels like the beginning of the party. Or the pre-party. Which sometimes, depending on who's there, is more fun than the actual party. When we found out baby girl would be coming in June I was thrilled. It made sense why we hadn't gotten pregnant yet; a summer baby is just right with me.

And now it's here. My favorite season, my baby's birth month and all the excitement that comes with. She is "due" right in the middle of the month and I have a list of 30 things (one for each day) I want to do before and after she's here. Every single one of them I am looking forward to. My "have-tos" are completed and my "want-tos" (in no particular order) start now. I'm printing it out and sticking it on my fridge. (Obviously, this is all just for fun – my only real priorities are family bonding time & donuts.)

In June I would absolutely love to :

  1. kiss my husband
  2. birth my baby
  3. take a perfect family photo
  4. nap
  5. drink a really great beer
  6. and a glass of phenomenal red wine
  7. go for long lazy walks
  8. snuggle my baby (this could really satisfy numbers 3-30)
  9. get a massage
  10. sit outside after it's dark
  11. make nachos
  12. eat backyard tomatoes
  13. watch the new season of Arrested Development
  14. record short movies
  15. eat all the watermelon to be found
  16. nurse my baby
  17. go out for breakfast
  18. lay in the shade
  19. eat waffles
  20. take photos
  21. dream about enhancing the backyard with Paul
  22. write a letter to the baby girl
  23. just write
  24. get a pedicure
  25. sip good coffee
  26. eat a donut with pink sprinkles
  27. commit that moment to memory
  28. laugh through it
  29. breathe through it
  30. surrender to it

Ah, so sweet! Best of luck. Your entire list sounds totally doable. 🙂 The first 3 months of breastfeeding were the hardest for me, but my body knew exactly what it was doing second time around!

The blog redo looks great! 🙂 I love the lines that appear under the text when you hover over the instagram, twitter, pinterest and shop titles! How cool! 🙂
P.S. Summer is my favorite, too! As a kid, I always always always looked forward to summer vacation (duh – who didn’t?) and I still do, even though I’m not in school and don’t actually get a summer vacation. I just LOVE summer! (could you tell? ha!)

I love this post (and yesterday’s). I won’t lie, I will miss seeing you pop up every workday in my Bloglovin feed, but obviously new baby girl > the internet. Enjoy this wonderful time, as a Southern hemisphere summer baby (so born in December), I can vouch for our awesome characters.

I loved your list. I smiled at the pedicure b/c I always had to have one before I had my boys. For some reason I didn’t want to not have one going into delivery.
    Enjoy every minute of June!

Oh Elise. I have blog stocked your for months now and have so enjoyed checking in with you daily. I can’t wait for you to have your little girl. That time in the delivery room, when you first meet your babe, magic. You have so inspired me to make lists. I just had baby number 4 this last fall. I’ve been soaking in lots of cuddle time with my little guy while mothering my other 3. I keep making long ambitious lists. Though I haven’t been able to complete as much as I would like (why aren’t there more hours in the day for us moms?), I have so enjoyed the process of making the lists. I dream as I make those lists. I just love the process and all that I am able to cross off.

What a beautiful list of intentions! And your #16…precious. I nursed both mine. I miss it! I really hope your birth goes smoothly. As a former L&D nurse, I would sit with my mothers while they labored, and I would quietly remind them, “All you have to do is just one at a time…” You will do beautifully!

Had to totally LOL at the title of this post. As a mother of 2 (and one being a summer baby), I saw that and thought “30 things? girls gone loco.” But then I read the list, and I’ll say all totally doable 🙂 Just soak it up and take it all in. My “summer baby” turns 13 this year. Still soaking THAT in…..God bless and Good Luck

Oh summer is my least favorite season. I’m a cool weather gal, but your enthusiasm is catching! Even though we’ve never met, I am so excited for baby girl to arrive! I’ve followed you for so long that I’m thrilled and proud — not that I had anything to do with your life, but ya know? — and so happy about baby girl’s arrival and your first few weeks at home with her and Paul. Just so very, very happy for you

And. I have a 13 year old girl with an “E” name that no one else has. We are secretly hoping this is your baby girl’s name. 🙂 I’m not going to ruin it by saying what it is, but this daughter of mine and I read and love your blog together. And now we’re just hoping and keeping our fingers crossed together. !! (just all in good fun:))

I normally read your blog and don’t comment, but since we are expecting too- a foster baby this time- in the end of June or July- this post made me cry big alligator tears while my 3 boys splashed in our backyard pool. We have been trying to grow our family and this little blessing will be just that. Congrats to you and yours and here’s hoping for a June that makes you cry big alligator tears. Love, Megan

Your relaxed attitude is very inspiring. We have a month left and I have been stressing like crazy because we still have “so much to do.” In reality, we’ve purchased pretty much everything we need and just need to organize a bit. Thanks for the reminder to slow down, breathe, enjoy summer, and most importantly savor this special time as our little one makes his way into the world!
