Pomsfromentry

I'd hoped to have a full nursery tour ready by this week but I think it's going to be a couple more before things totally feel "set" in there. And that's okay. We've got almost seven weeks until my due date (and, of course, the baby could care less about the decor that awaits her).

But I got the tissue paper flowers installed! I saw a few adorable nurseries on Pinterest (like this) and loved how festive and playful they felt.

Tissuepoms3

Never in a million years would I have expected to go so girly in this room. Pink is not exactly my style, but somehow, for this baby, it's working. And once I share the whole room, you'll see I brought in black and white and other pieces that mellow the in-your-face-pink a bit.

Tissuepoms2

I followed this tutorial from Martha Stewart to create the tissue pom-poms. Martha is for sure more of a perfectionist than I am, but I found these to be very easy and forgiving, especially once they are up on the ceiling. I used eight full sheets for the big ones and then eight half sheets for the smaller ones.

Tissuepoms

I bought all my tissue paper here because after some searching they had the best colors for the best price. The key was to get a variety of colors that were outside the traditional "red" or "pink" stuff that's sold at large craft stores.

Pomsclose

We hung them from the ceiling with fishing line and clear push pins and really just played around until the clusters looked right. It's was a lot like trying to paint an abstract. Everything is going fine until you get an extra pom-pom up there and suddenly not only do you hate the installation, but you're questioning every home decor decision you've ever made. (Not really, but sort of.)

Patience was important for the hanging part but the result is so whimsical and cute. I stuck them in just two corners, one on the crib side and one on the bookshelf side behind the hanging lamp. (Not to worry – the outside of that ceiling light does not get hot after even hours of use, but just to be safe, I'll have my dad, a property insurance guy by trade, take a look to be sure this is not a fire hazard when he is in town in a few weeks.)

Baby girl's room does not have a theme, but the overall idea is : "Hooray!"

I am a rule-follower, and when my babies were born, I didn’t even consider the idea that the room didn’t have to have a theme. I’m serious, and I share to hopefully make you laugh. I honest to goodness didn’t think outside of the box enough to consider cute, no theme. That was an epiphany as I just read your post! I’m knocking myself on the head! And laughing at myself!!
The room is DARLING!!! Keep on keepin’ on, Elise. You’re doing WONDERFULLY!!!!

So, so gorgeous!! I’m obsessed with your wood ceilings, Elise, and I’m convinced that’s half the reason these look so amazing. The contrast of the wood + tissue papers colors, plus the texture and pattern are freaking amazing. Such a creative idea, and you’ve totally pulled it off (no surprise there, though!).

Good choice not to have a theme, people will buy you so many lovely things and no theme means everything will work! I think children’s rooms are meant to be eclectic. Black and white are meant to be good for babies sensory development too. Have you sat in the middle of her room folding and refolding her clothes yet, just because you can? I seem to remember doing this a few times; crazy nesting habits!!

Love the theme of “Hooray!” 🙂 When I was a kid, to keep our hands busy at church, my mom would give us little packets of kleenex and we’d sit and make “tissue flowers” until the end of the service. This totally reminds me of that, and I love it 🙂 Can’t wait to see the “finished” nursery in a couple of weeks!

Looks adorable… I love the pop of colour from these. And I also love that they are easy to switch up if ever you get tired of the colour scheme (not that I would!).
When my eldest was tiny, she was fascinated by simple black and white patterns. I printed a few for the wall beside her change table, and she was completely mesmerized. Seems like you have a lot of graphic pattern in your life and I bet your babe will enjoy that. 🙂

I’m thinking small baby for you! My first two were huge – I didn’t have GD. Even so, for my third I stuck to a GD diet like my life depended on it, and she was almost two pounds lighter than the others! The way you’re eating – I think she’ll be just right. 🙂

If your sugars are going well, no issue! I was on insulin and everything and my daughter was only 6 pounds 11 ounces. 🙂 Easily fitting in newborn clothing!

I’ve always had “big” babies (9.3, 10 & 8.9 lbs.), but even still, all three of those little lumps of love needed newborn clothing in the beginning. For at least a few weeks (a month?) they’re so balled up, it was the only size that was ever appropriate.
Regardless of size, washing, folding and putting away new-baby clothing has got to be one of the most rewarding “chores” in life. 🙂

Love how the poms turned out! I made these for my wedding although I didn’t have as much patience, so yours look better. Glad to see the baby’s room coming along. I don’t want a theme when we have babies either. Just whatever we like.

They are lovely. The colours are great!!! Not to be a Debbie downer but I just hope they don’t end up being too much of a dust collector. I know where I live they would be dusty and growing cob webs in about a week.
