This has been a whirlwind. A 31 day whirlwind. We fell in love with the house on Thursday 1/24, nine days before Paul was set to leave for six months, and today it's going to be ours.

I am grateful for an ON TOP OF IT realtor, SUPER HELPFUL parents, FANTASTIC military packers & movers, a SUPPORTIVE & APPRECIATIVE husband, my UNCANNY organization skills & an ability to TRUST my gut on BIG decisions.

Today all of our stuff got loaded into a truck. This afternoon and tomorrow morning are about starting and stopping utilities, cleaning like a crazy person, changing our address on everything, taking a glucose screening test for the baby girl, setting up a PO Box for the business, dropping off the cable box, ordering lamps (like this and this) and most likely wandering Target to look at rugs.

And then it's on to San Diego for the next adventure. I cannot wait to get the keys to that house.

San Diego is one of my favorite places in the world, I’m really excited for you that you get to spend the next 4 years there with your family!
I was wondering if, in a little while, you might consider sharing your favorite places in town with us readers? You know: awesome shops, nice restaurants, cool beach spot – that kind of stuff. I’ll be visiting in october, and I always enjoy recommandations from locals way better than those from touristic guide books.
Anyway, good luck with the moving πŸ™‚

If you don’t mind I have a tip for your glucose test, if it’s the 1 hr test. I and a handful of friends have been through it within the last year. We all had elevated levels from the 1 hr test and had to go take the 3 hr test (after fasting for 12 hrs you sit around and they draw blood every hour for 3 hrs) and all our levels were then normal. I mentioned this to the nurse during my 3 hr test and she asked if we were told to fast before the 1 hr test (we were actually told it was ok to have a light meal) and she said that we should have. So, my suggestion is to fast before the 1 hr test and save yourself the time and headache and needle pricks of the 3 hr!

Good luck with everything related to moving. Don’t forget to get som relaxing time for you and your belly in between all the madness.
San Diego is such a beautiful city!
Oh, and about the glucose-test. My doctor actually tiped me about bringing some natural lemon juice (no sugar added) to mix in, since the glucose test is extremly sweet
…With the lemon it tastes like a delicious pregnant friendly margarita πŸ˜‰

On one hand, I’m sad you’re moving away from the LA area since I rather liked the idea of you being creative somewhere in the same city as me. On the other hand, I’m so happy you’re happy!
Congrats on the new house and yay for keys to new places! πŸ™‚

Congratulations on the house finally settling. I don’t know anything about the procedures in the USA however I’m led to believe that dates are not as concrete there and the date can change many times over. Congratulations for finally getting there.
Here in Australia we sign usually a 30 day contract of sale (it can also be 60 days and 90 days) but 30 is the standard. You have 14 days to get your finance and building and pest inspection done and then when that’s in place 16 days later your house settles. The dates are not changed from the contract unless both buyer and seller agree and sign off on it so if you sign a contract you know that’s the date the house will settle and it’s yours.
I remember drinking the glucose test when I was pregnant with my first, I can’t remember the 2nd but I’m sure I did it. It was just like a sweet green softdrink. I’m sure you have to hold on “ie not go to the toilet” for an hour before or so or after so they can get a urine sample. But it was 9 years ago but I do recall the moment sitting in the room drinking the sweet drink.
All the best with the move I can’t wait to see your decorating unfold….take an hour to lie down and put your feet up in the middle of the day. I used to have to lie down for 2 hrs on the bed and watch Dr Phil and Oprah during my 2nd pregnancy because obviously I was looking after a 2 year old as well. I didn’t sleep but I needed to not been doing stuff either. Just resting in the last 10 weeks of that pregnancy.

So so happy for you guys!! Good luck with the glucose test…I found it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting…hope it’s the same for you. I had fruit punch and it just tasted like super sugary Gatorade :).
Can’t wait to get your new address…I have something to send you…but it’s not quite ready just yet πŸ™‚

OK, first, the glucose that I took was like a majorly concentrated orange soda. I didn’t mind it.
    Next, you are awesome.
Finally, I think you should make a rug for at least one of your rooms. It seems like something right up your alley. Here is an OK, but not so great photo of one that my mom made for my office/classroom sorta thing at work. http://instagram.com/p/VMcz4ul-D6/

Congratulations! So exciting! I remember our first place, a beautiful condominium. Then our first house six years after that. We doubled our money on that house in six years before we moved to NC where we’ve been for the past eight years. After 20 years, we now own most of our house which is a fantastic feeling! It’s been great being a home owner. Enjoy!

You can do this Elise… you have lots of support and Paul is praying for you as I am sure you pray for his safe return… you can do this. I couldn’t resist a couple of purchases before we moved and those all fit in but some of our older stuff doesn’t fit our new house so you are wise to save your money until you get moved. Love you blog and can’t wait to see what you have planned for the next post. So much going on for you I will be praying too! lol Kathi

Congratulations! I can’t wait to see what you do with your new home. I love SD. We are actually moving from LA to SD in June and I can’t wait. Such a beautiful place with so many nice people. I’m hoping since you’ll be in SD you’ll set up a class with Papertales, they’re a nice group of ladies and I know I would love to take a class with you.
