27MATERIALSGLASS

Vase4

My original plan for "glass" was two painted mugs. I painted them, waited the 21 days for the glass paint I bought to cure, and then realized that ceramic didn't technically count as glass. But turns out it didn't matter because the paint still came off after their first run in the dishwasher. DIY project FAIL. The concept was pretty cute though, so I'll try them again and share them here for sure.

Frustrated with the mugs, but determined to still get the glass material out of the way, I painted a clear glass vase with the same brand of paint – I'm assuming since I will not be dishwashing and the paint is on the outside, it will be okay. The glass vase was one that came with a flower delivery and while it's a great size, it was pretty plain.

I painted each faceted section in alternating teal and white and think the result is pretty fun. A little bit circus-y and a little bit Jonathan Adler.

Totally an "Elise Project" – graphic, imperfect, easy and two colors. 😉

very cute! totally agree that it has a adler-vibe to it.
just fyi, i’ve used pebeo glass paint before with really great success. that stuff basically turns into cement and isn’t ever coming off. http://www.dickblick.com/products/pebeo-porcelaine-150/

Love the vase! I can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the projects, they’re always so creative!
I agree with Leah about the Pebeo Porcelaine. I painted a ceramic mug awhile back and it’s held up great- no chipping or wear at all. I didn’t even set it using the oven because I didn’t want to heat up the house. Love it!

Cute vase – you’ve probably answered this in other posts, but I love that table cloth, where’s it from?

I concur on the Pebeo porcelain paint. I used the chalkboard paint (chalkboard black is the only one with the chalkboard property) on mugs and they turned out great! I followed the tutorial on Wit & Whistle (she has two: http://witandwhistle.com/2011/12/14/diy-chalkboard-mug/ and http://witandwhistle.com/2011/10/17/diy-hand-painted-mug/ )

such a cheery color combo especially alongside your happy yellow table cloth (it’s famous here in blogland, lol!) and fresh flowers. I also saw Anthro had some hand painted glass canning jars, so all this eye candy may lure me into the craft store 🙂

Love the colours on your vase! The aqua colour is similar to the wool I’m teaching myself to knit with! Such a happy combo though!

What a timely post – I literally just blogged a project that used the Pebeo ceramic paint pens – they worked great and I love the results! You definitely need a product like that – I don’t think acrylic paint is made for ceramic or glass. 😉 Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
