MAGICstlouis

I spent the weekend in St. Louis visiting a friend from high school that is in her second year of med school in the city. It was rad seeing a new town but even better catching up in real life. I hate the phone. And while email is my right hand man, nothing compares to the magic of face to face chatter and laughter. It was just what I needed to kick off this month which is going to be so different than September.

I am now in Sacramento at my parent's house which is never a bad place to be. I will be spending this week getting some work done, catching up on sleep, getting the parents hooked on brussels sprouts and trying to get a few short runs in before the half marathon this Sunday.

Thank goodness for coffee this Monday morning. I had a late start and I'm diving in head first.

Yes! I just had a long convo with one of my best pals this weekend about how important it is to see each other in real life. We and one other friend are creating a girls weekend tradition where we plan a year in advance to meet in a city in between where we all live and hang out for a long weekend (funny enough, I suggested St. Louis as our inaugural spot!). And, how cool, my folks like in Sactown too! Have a great visit!

You should try brussel sprout soup! I just had some (and took a lovely picture), and the sprouts were picked fresh from the garden. Awesome.

I really want to like Brussel sprouts. What would I need to look for as far as if they are ripe/reading for cooking??
    Thanks,

you know, I have no idea. I usually just buy a bunch and don’t even think about it. I have heard if you can get them on the stalk (and then just pick them off for cooking) they are even better. I think the secret is to be sure they cook long enough so they are done all the way through.

I’ve been eating tons of brussels sprouts! This summer I got hooked. They are just so delicious! My childhood brussels sprouts always came from the frozen bag and were microwaved with butter… blech. This summer a friend taught me the error of my ways, and she makes them just like you – fresh and stir fried! the best!

I love St. Louis. I also love brussels sprouts—-I prefer them roasted.
P.S. If you’re bored in Sacramento and are up for coffee, I live downtown and would love to meet up. Either way, enjoy our rainy Monday and hopefully the sunny rest of the week 🙂
