Hooray! More progress! I talk about this a bit at the beginning of the video, but I want to mention it again : I am putting no emphasis on “daily updates” to this album. Whatever says “SUMMER” (in all caps) gets in. And whatever doesn’t say “SUMMER” stays out. This is keeping the pressure off and this project fun. Keep in mind, there are a million ways to collect a season in a book, this one just works for me.

I ended up building the last couple pages shown above on video to walk you through the process. Spoiler alert : I made (and make) a few errors during production and show you how I work around them.

real time book update from elise blaha on Vimeo.

Hoping to do some fun stuff and get another video update together by the end of the week.

I really want to get one of those paper trimmers for the school I work in! We have a huge dangerous one LOL The calendar looks really cool, too.
Looking forward to seeing what else you are doing with your book.

love this update! and I love that you show the mistakes 🙂
I have to know….. you pronounced lululemon differently than it is pronounced where I live (canada)… is it pronounced differently in the states?

Do you have any recommendations for paper trimmers, that are a bit lower end than yours? There are so many out there!

I used a fiskars 12inch rotary paper cutter before upgrading to this one. Thats all I could recommend based on experience. It did the job. 🙂

I am loving these updates. I’m not playing along because it’s Winter here in NZ but I’m getting so many tips and ideas 🙂 And I love that you show the mistakes and how you fix them – I find it so easy to cast a project aside as soon as I do one thing wrong – now I will try to fix them 🙂

    oh my.
i am extremely happy (practically beyond words) that i found you.
    our brains are basically parallel.
i too, save every bit of paper/fabric for my scrapbooking.
scrapbooking & card making & and doo-da-ing occupy all my time.
i go on adventures just so i can scrapbook about them.
&this summer book idea is amazing.
    i might stay here forever.

As someone said before, i’m also getting so many tips and ideas! Actually I think today I had my ‘eliseblog’ moment. I saw a scarf of a yellow fabric with white polka dots and I thought “this would be an awesome fabric for a mini-book page or something!” it was VERY cheap i bought it and i’m waiting for the moment 🙂

Love the video updates! I also love you laid back attitude and how you easily adjust to make things work. Very inspiring!
I also appreciate the organizational tip – just today I spent at least an hour going through piles of craft supplies looking for one item. Finally I gave up and went to the kitchen to work on suppper. For some reason I opened the cabinet where my margarita glasses are stored and there was the craft supply I was looking for! I guess I stuck it there one day to get it off the counter. Your box idea is much better! Thanks for sharing.

I just have to ask you this–why have you started a summer book already?? Summer doesn’t start til Jun 21 or atleast til Memorial Day and isn’t that just today?? Why I ask is that I live in the NW and it is still freezing (unusual even here) and I just can’t even think it’s spring let alone SUMMER!! 🙂

Because summer is my favorite season ever. Because normally I am on to the next thing when August ends. Because I am running a business and part of that is working ahead so people can see samples for when they get around to summer. But really mostly because I wanted a new project and I was ready to start.

Love the updates. Question: When you print pictures of the full page spread, or any photos really do you mount it on a stiffer piece of paper to keep it strong in the book? Or do you find that photo paper is good enough? What kind of paper do you use?
    Thanks!

Not sure if you watched the video.. During this one, I show you exactly how I am adding pages into the book. They are backed with the cardstock you see on either side. 🙂

random paper question: I love love love your circular papers with a scalloped edge. Went to Paper Source (for the first time last week) and had hoped to find that paper there. Do you make it yourself or have a recommendation for finding it? Or, would you be interested in selling it on your etsy site?

hmmm, they didnt have any there? It should be in the cards and envelopes section in packs of 20. I buy them wholesale from Waste Not Paper (which is PSs wholesale company) … at the moment, I am not getting into selling just paper/supplies via etsy, but depending on how many youd like/colors, we might be able to work something out. email me. 🙂

the pool-colored circles aren’t sold anymore (at least in the stores)…PS still sells scalloped A2-sized cards and scalloped 4-bar ovals, but no more scalloped circles (unless you’re lucky enough to run across some in the sale sections!)

I am loving your videos! The comments you made at the beginning of video #5 about a daily project put into words what I’ve been feeling. I think a summer book done when I feel like it is just what I’ve been looking for. Thank you for your comments like that as well as your crafting tips…loving the one about putting the paper and photos on the table first and then sticking them together.
I’ve checked out your shop and think I might be ordering some prints. Love the “Just Start” one!

Hi Elise – Another question. I am trying to make a text block like yours where all the starts and ends of lines line up perfectly and am struggling. There must be a trick?
    Thanks!
