E : helllllllooooooooo Paul! If it's cool with you, I am going to ask you some questions and type furiously to get your answers. As you know, we tried video, and the awkwardness that was us together on video almost wiped out Planet Earth. So now we're back to a good old fashioned text interview.
P : Phew, that is a relief.
E : SO! how are you? Please tell us about yourself.
P : Tell us about myself? I'm currently hungry. It's dinner time. I love my wife, cars and video games. Are you sure this is going to be good?
E : Yes, I am so sure. What is your job?
P : Doesn't the dinner smell good?
E : So good. So seriously, what is your job?
P : Is that what you meant by "tell me about yourself?" My job? I am about to complete my year as a transitional intern at Naval Medical Center in San Diego. AKA, I'm a doctor in the Navy.
E : Rad. Are you excited about being done with internship?
P : Very excited slash excited about future residency opportunities.
E : Excellent. How do you feel about your upcoming deployment?
P : Enthusiastic because this is what I have been training for for five years now. And besides enthusiastic, cautious because I don't like the idea of being away from you for so long.
E : Yeah, me too. I will miss you. So… what is your favorite part of being married?
P : uhhhh, [insert inappropriate joke here] …I would say, companionship? But I don't know… it's difficult to describe marriage in a sentence.
E : Good call. I retract the question. Does it bother you that I talk about our life on the internet?
P : No.
E : That's good. Also, we should have covered that years ago. If you weren't a doctor, what would you be?
P : I guess I would want to be a teacher. Although making wine sounds good too.
E : Seriously. Let's do that. …what else should we talk about?
P : Whatever you want.
E : I had a few people ask about how you support me – because you do, you know. What would you say you do to support me creatively?
P : I would say that I understand and recognize that you have far more creative potential than I do about …everything. I let you run with ideas that I normally wouldn't run with because I know that you'll make them work when they would probably not work for me.
E : Thank you.
P : Um hmm.
E : What are the two top adjectives you would use to describe yourself?
P : Faithful & diligent.
E : Ohh, good ones. What's the best show on television?
P : The best show? … I would have to say Tosh.0.
E : Yeah. On TV, right now, that's probably the best. Unrelated, where do you see us in 10 years?
P : Working hard. Spending lots of time with family.
E : How many kids?
P : Two.
E : What state?
P : California.
E : Happier or less happy than we are now?
P : Happier.
E : Sweet. I love you. Time for dinner?
P : Yes.
