Real Food: What to Eat and Why, Lottery, Born to Run

It's been awhile since I have shared what I'm reading. Truth be told, I have just been re-reading (and re-reading) a lot of books that I have around here lately. Very boring. But the books above are coming soon to an iPad near me. (Although first I need the iPad. And then I need to confirm they are all available on it.) I'm very excited about each one and will be sure to do a wrap up once they've been devoured read.

What's on your list? Does anyone use their iPad as an e-reader? Good? Fail?

i use mine as my ereader. i love it. cause, its back lite, i dont have to have an extra light on. the only problem with it, is you cant take it out in the sun very well. otherwise, its awesome.

I’m on a Jordan bent for the next few weeks because I just got back from a trip there. I’m reading Queen Noor’s memoirs (which are fantastic) and then I’m on to Married to a Bedouin.
I’m still holding out against an ereader. I love holding the book in my hands!

I looove to read on my iPad! It is so easy to see and use. There have been a few books I wanted to read that were unavailable from their shop, but other than that, no complaints.

I heard that you can buy an e-book from other places and drag it into the books folder in iTunes and upload it to your iPad… That might help you (and me) get additional books… 🙂

I LOVE my iPad for reading. I have apps from all the stores (Borders, Nook, Kobo, Kindle, library) and I can read ebooks from anysite where they are available. As I’m finishing my masters I’m also discovering that some of the books are available as PDF files and those I can load into the ibooks app and read. I take it with me on the treadmill and it fits perfectly on the rack. LOVE LOVE LOVE, can’t say enough things about it 🙂 Hope you have a similar experience!

I agree with Jess. I lOVE my iPad. What did I do without it?
I have trouble sleeping and it is great to grab my iPad and read without having to turn on the light. I mostly use the Kindle reader. One thing nice about that is that I can get a “sample” of a book before I buy it, to try it out first.
My local library has ebooks that can be “checked out” to read on the iPhone or iPad, but I haven’t tried it yet.
I get the e-edition of my local newspaper and read it on the iPad.
And I use the Reeder app for reading blogs. Also love the “Read It Later” app for saving longer articles to read later.
I finally got an iPhone and love to read on that too!

I’ve heard that the Kindle App on the iPad is good, and it gives you another “store” to buy books on as well.
My mom has a Nook, and I’ve read a few books on that while I’ve been home for breaks, but I can’t read for an extended period of time on it… it gives me a headache, I think because of the backlit screen. Something to keep in mind… it’s like staring at a computer for a long period of time, and I often read books to get AWAY from my computer.

if you use the Kindle app, you don’t even have to drag into iTunes; you can download straight to your iPad. that’s what I use most of the time because of its huge selection, and I love it!

I don’t have an Ipad, but I did get a kindle a few weeks ago and LOVE it! I am a big reader so it’s awesome being able to carrying reading material with me at all times. I am almost done with Born to Run & would definitely recommend it. I hate running, but it is making me want to become a runner!
Have you ever heard of goodreads? It lets you track what you have read & want to read. I love it because anytime I get a book recommendation I add it to my list, so I always have something good when I am trying to decide what to read next.

hi Valerie, I have a goodreads account, but I never ever update it. I usually just add books to my amazon cart when I get a recommendation. I dont always buy them, but I save for later when I need ideas. 🙂

It is fantastic! And, it comes with loads of free classics to start so there is always something to read.
    You will love it!

I prefer paper books and have been shopping away in London earlier this month. Books are sooo expensive here in The Netherlands so whenever we travel to the UK I make sure to include a couple of bookstores in the itinerary! I recently read ‘extremely loud and incredibly close’ by Foer, followed by Robin Hobb’s ‘Dreagon Haven’. ‘A thousand summers of Jacob de Zoet’ by David Mitchell and ‘The Liar’ by Stephen Fry make out the fiction part of my stack of ‘books to be read’. I also got my hands on a couple of art journaling books, amongst which ‘The creative license’.

I don’t have an iPad, but I hear the newer one is better for using as an e-reader as it’s liter then the first version 🙂
I’ve always wanted to try an e-reader… Not sure if I could get the hang of it though…

I don’t have an Ipad or a Kindle, but my husband just got one and he downloaded the Kindle app straight away. There are a bunch of free books and he likes reading on it so far. I just got my mom a Kindle and she really likes it…wasn’t sure if she would since she reads A LOT, but she is seriously OUT of space on her bookshelves. It isn’t backlit and she prefers that. I still really love traditional books, but I know that at some point I will need to do something else because I don’t have the space either.

I’m with you on the space issue. I got the Queen Noor book from the library. I’ve traded buying so many books for saving the $$ for the awesome vacation. I also love half.com for buying used books (got all my books for a huge craft project from there).

I have a NOOK color and it has an option to make the background dark and the words white, so I can read it for hours without hurting my eyes.

I want an iPad but not for an ereader. Like Nat, I like holding a book. I make a trip to the library every week or 2 to stock up on new books. Free and no need to store them!

I have used the kindle app on my iPhone for books on sleep and rehydration, non-fiction stuff you just want for the info but don’t want to have in your home.
I have also read a couple of books on my iPad. I don’t use it nearly as much as Henry. But when I have used it, I tended to flip too soon because you turn the page by touching the screen. So my reading rhythm was a little off. Plus the page numbers vary and it is harder to skip ahead to see how many pages are left in the chapter.

I have a Kindle and I love it. I have sensitive eyes, and because it isn’t back-lit it’s as easy to read as a regular book with no extra strain. One of my goals this year is to read 52 books! (I’m blogging about my journey through this seemingly insurmountable pile of books – http://bookwormbliss.tumblr.com) I’m currently reading “So Long, Insecurity” by Beth Moore. But next on my list is “Les Miserables” by Victor Hugo. My favourite book source outside of Amazon is second-hand stores 🙂
    Happy reading!

I love our iPad and wouldn’t want to miss it for internet time away from my “work” computer. It’s where I read all of the blogs I’m interested in via my RSS reader “Reeder”. Love that app! I really like the iPad for reading longer articles I have saved in my “Read it Later” account (another app I absolutely love) on train rides across Germany, too. However, I haven’t read a single book on this device and yet have to be convinced to do so. I love books for their simple handling and skillfully applied typography – something I deeply miss in the e-reading apps I have tried that seem to focus on “turning pages” as the main feature. we have just sorted out our bookshelves and only kept the books We cherish for their qualities as a three-dimensional object as well as their content – still left with a few hundred, though. 🙂

i will be getting an ipad in the next few weeks, and one of the things i am most excited about it being able to purchase the digital version of magazines and read them at home or while traveling. i always end up with a crazy stack of mags at home and i think it will be nice to have them all stored digitally and organized at my fingertips. also, not sure if this will work, but it would be awesome if i could screen capture a page i like and add it to pinterest instead of the usual cut and paste into a sketchbook like i’ve been doing. seriously can’t wait to get one!

I love my iPad and reading ebooks is one of the big reasons. My biggest issue… I’m spending more on books now than I have since college! It’s way to easy to hit that “buy” button! Luckily the books cost less, so that is a win.
I especially love reading magazines. I think it’s such a great use of the technology and they look awesome on the iPad!

I have the Ipad 2. I gave the first one to my husband. I love it. I had the 2nd edition Kindle but got the Ipad as a birthday present. I was running out of book space myself. I read everyday and the back light doesn’t bother me at all. You can change the page color from white to sepia and you have the option of turning the brightness up or down while in ibooks. I read a lot of Kindle books on the Ipad with no problem. I haven’t tried to download any other apps with it. I just never looked into it. I even read some magazines on Ipad through an app called Zinio. You can subscibe and instead of getting it in the mail you get it each month digitally. Less paper and wasted space. I read a lot of news on it and save a lot to either drop box or instapaper to read later. I love those two apps. If you facebook you can do that but I love the games too. I’m addicted to Angry Birds right now, just a little.
I got one of the Smart covers with mine and everyone may love that but in my opinion it just doesn’t give enough protection. It does protect the screen but not the back and not if you drop it. I ordered a protection shield from zagg.com. It protects the front and the back from getting scratches. I’m looking at the cases that are out and are coming out because I just want more protection. The leather smart case is $70. I like the Dodo cases that look like books; dodocase.com.
Hope you figure out which one you like. I loved my Kindle but when my husband got me the 1st Ipad it was love at 1st site. I can do so much with it.

I can’t afford an iPad right now, but I managed to get a kindle which I love to read on. I prefer NOT reading with a backlit screen, because it’s annoying and a bit taxing on the eyes after a while. If you only read for a little bit at a time, it’s ok. I’ve used the kindle app on my phone (so, backlit), and it’s like reading on a computer.
I don’t think I’d read much on an iPad since there’s too much else to do on those things! The kindle is mainly a book – so I use it to read. Not to surf. Not to play games. Helps me stay focused. 🙂

Born to Run is an awesome book! I downloaded it from Audible and listened to it while running, you know I think it made me run faster. I’m missing it so much, that I may have to listen to it again and I almost picked it up in paperback. The Help is really good to if you get a chance to read/listen to that one.

Hi Elise! Just seeing this post now…Matt bought me a Kindle for my birthday and I absolutely LOVE it! I do most of my reading at night…after he’s asleep and I have a small light that I love.
Right now my book club is reading “Bossy Pants” the autobiography of Tina Fey…not sure if you are a fan but I love her!! We just finished reading “A Visit from the Goon Squad” it was good…a little “non-linear” but entertaining :).
    hope you are well!

I use mine as my reader and I like it a lot. I haven’t spent much time with Kindles or Nooks, so not much to compare it to. I don’t take it with me places that often, the glass can make it difficult to read in the sun, and the original ipad is a bit to large/heavy for on-handed metro commute reading. Overall I enjoy it, if you’re already buying an ipad for other purposes, I feel like its worth using as a e-reader too.
