I am definitely a fan of the quilting hoop.
There is a grove to it, and I think once you're in the grove it's cake.
I have no idea now to use a thimble.

Wow, I am so impressed that you’ve tackled hand quilting your first quilt. That takes some serious patience!

Top of the quilt looks great. Are you quilting through all the layers? Top, batting, bottom layer? This will give you a more durable quilt, batting won’t bunch up when you wash it. My mother has made many quilts over the years and hand quilted many of them. They have lasted for years.

yep, all three layers.

You don’t have to use a thimble. It just makes it easier to push the needle through all those layers. I like to push it through one side and then back up the other. If you do it that way, no thimble needed.

I wish I didnt have to, but my finger is hurting!! I think I just need more practice to get more comfortable with it.

You are quilting that by hand. OMG…is there anything you can’t do? Love that you are sharing the progress.

Wow…looks great! those colors look great together, but then again you do have a knack for color! I use the thimble to “push” the needle through…usually weraing it on my middle finger. Dont know if thats “proper” thimble technique but it works for me. I also use 1/4″ quilters tape to keep my lines straight.

What I truly admire about your projects is that you really seem to commit yourself to them. So far along already! I am impressed.

This is beautiful. Can’t wait to see it finished. The fact that you are hand-quilting it makes you a hero in my book. Never tried it.
