Yesterday was a battle. The cards were stacked against me so to speak. My printer rebelled. Traffic on every road swelled. Nothing was clicking and everything felt like a mess.

Today I woke up and have not stopped moving. In a fury of activity have been attacking the mess. I am working on making the upstairs a neat and tidy space for getting work done. Books made, packages wrapped, blog posts typed, the whole nine yards. I need a way to separate my work life from my home life which despite all odds I do not think is impossible. Moving my computer & projects upstairs and clearing some stuff out is a good start.

Work / Life balance – I am creeping ever so slowly towards you.

I really struggle with this myself. I think part of it is is that my “work” is something I started doing as a hobby and I still enjoy as a hobby, hence I’m always “working” (or living?, depending on how you look at it).

Yes. I need this also. My dining room table is getting far too busy with non-eating activities. + things have been kind of messy + battle-y as well.

I LOVE the “Love is here to stay” print on your wall. Where did you get it? Or did you make it yourself? I’m coveting it!

I need a separate space too….just wish a fairy would visit and get my room organized. Need to invest in a little time….I have a room, just need to set it up so I have that place to escape. Have a great day.

Hey, Elise. I work from home, though I get out pretty regularly for visits to clients. I am lucky enough to have a real home office with a desk and a door and everything, so that helps make it possible to keep my two worlds apart, even though they coexist in the house. One of the nice things about working from home and carrying a Blackberry (aka, the electronic leash) is that I can leave my office and still be at work, and when that happens, the lines get a little more blurry. When I first started my job, it wasn’t too bad, but now that I have been at it for 3 years and am not so engaged in learning the ropes, it is harder to not be distracted by housework and my craftroom. I do have some tips, though: 1) It’s easier if I play music in my office and don’t use my iPod with earphones, because I wtend to stay in one spot. 2) It helps to make a list at night before I go to bed and look at it first thing in the morning, then sort of allot time to each task in my day’s calendar. 3) It helps my concentration to leave my desk for lunch and stay away for a while, espcially if I can make myself go for a walk. Unless I take my camera, in which case I might get distracted again. Good luck to you, and let us know what works for you and your routine.

thank you for your suggestions. All helpful. It’s quite a mess sometimes. I will be sharing my progress for sure. 🙂
