I do not remember ever taking a "mental picture" of anything.
Never stopping to think – "Take this in." – and then actually doing so. Capturing it. Like a camera.
But last night, during halftime at the Coliseum, I did. I stood under the arch and looked at 92,000 people. I heard the band and saw the fog and thought to myself, REMEMBER. And I did. I have that image. Right now.
Only later, on the walk back to 28th, did I realize that last night’s game was my last as a student in the Coliseum. That last night was my last chance to feel it. All of it – as a true part of USC.
Four years ago, I thought USC stood for University of Santa Cruz.
Funny, funny how things change.
