Spent time this morning touring the Target Distribution Center. It was impressive both for its size and organizational structure. But I think I expected that. A company as profitable as Target would have obviously figured out an efficent way to get the product on the shelves.
The head of building logistics spoke with our group. He commented on his job: "It’s just pushing boxes. The key is getting a team to push 41 million a year and keep coming back." That to me was a very cool statement. Again, I was very impressed.
So much to say about my experience with Target this summer. So much of it involves what this man was able to sum up in two sentences. Learned a lot about what I want out of a career. About where my strengths are. About where my opportunities exist. I will definitely follow up on that.
But for now…off to Berkeley. More Bear’s Lair and beer, but no boxes to push.
