Talked to Dad the other night about what he called the TOPs Model. Googled it to get some legit information. Could not find it. But it really does not matter. Dad is a pretty legit source.
Basically there are three things that are important in any job.
The first is Talent. The ability to accomplish the task. To succeed. To have what it takes.
The second is Organizational Need. There has to be a position available. A demand from a company for your abilities.
The third is Passion. A intense emotional drive. Desire.
In the diagram each is represented by a circle. Each overlaps. And in the center they all come together. They create the goal. Where I want to be. Where talent and opportunity and passion can all be found.
Over the next eight months I am going to be searching for a job. There are going to be numerous opportunities. For many of them I may have the skills. But the question that I will have to constantly ask will be, Am I passionate about this? It is going to be the deciding factor. Other people can tell me where there is an organizational need. Other people can tell me if I have the talent for the job. Only I can determine if there is passion. Gotta remember that. Gotta remember that at the end of day it is the passion that will keep me motivated. That will allow me to ultimately succeed on both a personal and professional level.
See? Told you Dad was legit.
