Started a new book last night. Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott. Picked it up at Costco because the New York Times gave it a good review. Pretty funny stuff. Lamott is a real Christian. A Christian with problems and doubts and anger. She writes in the self-deprecating way that everyone seems to write in. But there is a reason — it is funny.
I re-read one statement over and over: "peace is joy at rest, and joy is peace on its feet." Had to read it a few times to make sense of it. To see if it seemed real. And it does. Such a true statement. Ultimate peace of spirit and mind comes from feeling satisfied. Satisfaction comes from contentment or joy. True happiness comes from feeling calm. From knowing everything is okay. From peace.
That might not make sense. But late last night it was an epiphany. I am trying to enJOY the day. Thus, finding peace of self.
