enJOY it

an archived personal and craft blog from Elise Blaha Cripe.

Today I increased mine.  As in, I opened my eyes a bit wider.

Went to a screening of Invisible Children.  Cliffnotes: There is a war in Uganda.  Children are abducted from their homes and forced to become soldiers.  It is their story.

It was difficult to watch.  The filmmaker said it in the beginning: "People do not like to look at images of children suffering in Africa because it makes them uncomfortable.  But what we have to ask is Why do you feel uncomfortable?"

I know that closing your eyes to a problem makes it invisible.  It does not make it disappear.  There is a difference.  I do not want to become comfortable with uncomfort.  I want to eliminate what is making me uncomfortable.

I have so many thoughts after seeing this film.  Going to ruminate over them for awhile.
